Hired to oversee the complete transformation of its Red Hook, Brooklyn building, Pioneer Works engaged Yorke Construction to carry out an ambitious project to integrate a fully functional and operable viewing observatory into their cultural programming.
Executed in phases, to date Yorke has introduced modern services, vertical transportation, upgraded mechanical systems, fire sprinklers, and reinforced- along with newly constructed- building foundation systems.
Now entering its final phase, the project will see the construction of a rooftop observatory deck, an equatorial room, an event space, an open viewing deck, and essential back-of-house support areas. At the heart of this transformation is the historic telescope, a relic from the same era as the building itself, which has been expertly restored. Pioneer Works envisions this observatory as a celebration of culture, inviting all to explore and engage with the cosmos.
