Yorke Construction was contracted by ATG Entertainment/Jujamcyn to renovate and upgrade the August Wilson Theater for the new production of Cabaret.
The work included partial demolition and reinforcement of the existing stage, to accommodate a new seating riser and mezzanine structure to be built over the existing stage, allowing a ‘theater in the round’ space. Yorke also re-raked the existing house riser and modified the theater’s layout to provide for modern day ADA access and support facilities throughout the space. Lighting and HVAC systems were also upgraded during this fast-paced project.
In addition to renovating the theater itself, Yorke also upgraded back-of-house spaces in the August Wilson Theater to provide much needed additional bathroom facilities, VIP lounge, and additional kitchen and food prep areas. This work required various structural modifications, new connections between the theater and office buildings, as well as specialty finish work (plaster restoration, new millwork and custom metalwork). Due to the timing of this work, Yorke was required to work closely with ATG/Jujamcyn and the Cabaret production team to ensure no disturbance was caused by the new construction work during theater tech/rehearsal/etc.
